The NASA Academic Mission Services (NAMS) Team was awarded a new cooperative agreement with U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) titled “Collaborative Research in Innovative Technologies for Investigation of Resources and Hazards.” The agreement is for collaborative research, development, and education to advance science and technology in areas of common interest between the NAMS Team and the USGS Geology Minerals, Energy and Geophysics Science Center (GMEGSC) and the USGS National Innovation Center (NIC) or other USGS Sources. The primary focus of the agreement is to foster collaborative research between USGS and USRA for a range of research topics including, but not limited, to water, environmental health, natural hazards, energy and minerals, land resources, ecosystems, and air quality. Many of these projects will also involve collaboration and coordination with NASA Ames Research Center. In addition, this agreement will support workforce development with mentoring of students and collaborations with Postdoctoral Fellows in scientific projects, as well as diverse research with faculty in colleges and universities on content of relevance to USGS. David Bell, Ph.D. (USRA) and Saba Hussain (USRA) are the USRA leads for the collaboration, which has an initial period of performance of September 1st, 2019 to August 31st, 2021.
