Aeronautics: ATD-2 Being Deployed at Envoy Airlines

August 2020

The North Texas Research (NTX) team is deploying an Airspace Technology Demonstration 2 (ATD-2) system at Envoy Airlines' headquarters to be used during the ‘Stormy 21’ season. Envoy operates the regional fleet (American Eagle) for American Airlines, which makes up about 22% of the total American Airline presence at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and 17% of overall operations at DFW. The addition of Envoy to the ATD-2 Phase 3 data collection will significantly increase the number of data points collected during the test. Under normal conditions the NTX team would install the hardware needed to connect Envoy to the ATD-2 network but COVID has restricted access to Envoy’s building. In order to get Envoy up and running as soon as possible, the NTX team created and delivered a set of instructions and a kit assembled with all the hardware needed to make the network connection to the Envoy. The Envoy is expected to be online in September.

The NTX NAMS team, Jody Null and Keenan Roach (USRA) worked with Dave Hicinbothem (Mosaic ATM) and Greg Juro (Cavan Solutions) on this project.
